The SRAM RED E1 AXS XG-1290 12-Speed Cassette is SRAM’s lightest and most advanced road cassette, engineered for uncompromising shifting performance, exceptional durability and an expanded gearing range. Featuring the latest X-DOME™ one-piece machined steel construction, the XG-1290 E1 combines ultra-light weight with remarkable stiffness, delivering lightning-fast electronic shifts under full load and seamless gear progression for racing, climbing and all-road adventures. 

Available in 10-28T, 10-30T, 10-33T and 10-36T options, the RED E1 cassette offers carefully selected gear spacing with multiple single-tooth jumps, allowing riders to maintain optimal cadence whether attacking a climb, sitting in a fast bunch or sprinting for the finish. The 10-tooth small cog also provides a wider overall gear range without sacrificing closely spaced ratios. Designed exclusively for XDR driver bodies and SRAM’s 12-speed Road Flattop chains, it’s the benchmark for elite road drivetrains. 

Expected Lifespan

The one-piece machined steel construction makes the RED XG-1290 E1 significantly more durable than its lightweight 180g weight suggests. With good maintenance and regular chain replacement, you can typically expect:

  • 12,000-15,000 km with meticulous drivetrain maintenance
  • 80,00-10,000 km under normal road riding conditions
  • 6,000-8,000 km in wet, gritty conditions or if chain wear is left unchecked

Replacing your SRAM Flattop chain before it exceeds 0.5% wear will greatly extend cassette life. Many riders achieve 3-4 chain replacements from a single cassette when the drivetrain is kept clean and lubricated.
