Meet Jordan - Your Bike Whisperer

Meet Jordan - Your Bike Whisperer
MEET THE TEAM
JORDAN - MARRICKVILLE

As part of our Marrickville workshop team, Jordan plays a key role in the day-to-day running of the service area. If you have spent time in-store, there’s a good chance you have met him, had your bike serviced by him, or even rolled out on a new build put together by him. We thought it was time to share a little more about the rider and mechanic behind the workshop bench.

1. What’s your favourite type of bike to work on? - Road bikes for sure, especially the builds where you can tell the rider has really thought through every detail and customised it to suit their own riding style and preferences.

2. What’s one bike that’s recently come through the workshop that stood out to you? - Y1RS with full TI bolts upgrade kit.

3. Are you more into road, gravel or MTB personally? - Road for sure although i do a little bit of commuting on the cargo bike.

4. What’s your current personal bike setup? - I ride a Fiftyone SIKA with a custom build.

5. If you could build your dream bike with unlimited budget, what would it look like? - I would actually build up some sort of flatbar supercommuter / cafe racer. Think fast frame with chunky tyres with a trick build. The idea is something that is functional for my daily rides but also indulgent enough that making sense isn't super important.

6. Favourite groupset of all time? - Red E1 or the old 7800 mechanical dura-ace.

7. Mechanical or electronic shifting? - Electronic

8. Deep section wheels or lightweight climbing wheels? - All rounder, 40-50mm but sub 1300g.

9. What’s one underrated upgrade riders should consider more often? - Clean your bike!

10. Most common issue you see riders neglecting? - As above

11. What’s your workshop pet peeve? - As above again 🫠

12. Weirdest or wildest bike issue you’ve seen come into the shop recently? - Diagnosing creak on the bike which actually was caused by a frame that flexed enough under-load that rubbed against a specific metal bottle cage. Nothing was faulty or broken but just the combination of those parts did not  work together well.

13. Favourite bike brand right now and why? - Nothing specifically that comes to mind for now.

14. Which bike in the showroom would you ride home today if you could? - Amflow PX for sure.

15. What’s one tool in the workshop you couldn’t live without? - Knipex plier wrenches.

16. Coffee before builds or builds before coffee? - Actually i don't drink coffee but it will be Tea before builds.

17. Tubeless: genius or nightmare? - Both, customers sometimes think tubeless is simply for durability and reliability but it is actually not set and forget and is mostly alligned to performance bikes. One of the most common things i see is non existent tubeless sealant in tyres due to the sealant evaporating or clumping up rendering it useless in the actual case of a puncture.

18. Favourite tyre combo at the moment? - GP5000 S TR is a default choice but actually the new Pirelli SLR tyres are looking very interesting.

19. Clean bike every ride or “it adds character”? - You know what i think about dirty bikes :)

20. What’s your advice for riders wanting to keep their bikes running smoothly year-round? - It may be obvious but you gotta get ahead of the game. Common problems including worn chain's and brake pads actually wearing out rotors and cassettes aggressively does not bode well for your wallet and also your performance. So like your health, get ahead of the curve and never forget your bike and it will reward you with many years of smooth riding.
