Until now, Lightweight wheelsets were known primarily for their low weight and extremely high rigidity. With the new Fernweg wheelsets, the Friedrichshafen-based company is now also at the forefront in the segment of aero wheels, without forgetting its roots.
Every detail of the previous model has been checked, developed and improved at Lightweight. The rims in particular have been radically revised. Several sessions in the wind tunnel as well as months of practical tests with professional triathletes were completed until the optimal combination of aerodynamics, cross wind sensitivity, rigidity, handling and weight was found.
The result is significantly wider and bulbous rims compared to the previous model. With an inner width of 17 millimeters, they integrate 25 millimeter wide tires in a streamlined manner and offer very good support for tires up to 32 millimeters wide. In the wind tunnel, the rims are particularly convincing in realistic cross-wind conditions. Not only that they are on par with the market leaders in terms of air resistance with the same rim height, compared to the competition, the rims are more stable in crosswinds and the forces on the steering are less. In practice, this can mean the difference between whether you can stay in the semi-trailer in the aerodynamically favorable sitting position or whether you have to reach into the base handlebar in windy conditions.
The laminated carbon spokes proven by the high-end milestone wheelset ensure maximum rigidity and extremely direct power transmission. The inner workings of the DT Swiss 190s hubs ensure smooth running and long durability, which is hidden under the carbon hub shell. Thanks to their weight advantage compared to other wheelsets with a similar profile height, the Fernweg wheelsets are particularly predestined for mountainous time trial and triathlon routes. But they are also ideal as an all-round wheelset for Aero racing bikes.
